Petition to the President of the Portuguese Republic about Same-sex Marriage

Dear President Cavaco Silva,
We are defenders of equal rights for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) residents of Macau. Given the number of Macau residents who possess Portuguese citizenship and the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Portugal, we believe it is an unalienable right for Macau residents who possess Portuguese citizenship to enjoy the same right as the fellows in Portugal.
Despite the promulgation of the revised Civil Code, overseas registrations for same-sex marriage have not been actively promoted by the Government of the Republic. Be it registered at Portuguese Consulates or in Portugal, there are difficulties for Macau residents who possess Portuguese citizenship to obtain relevant information. We would like to propose to the Government of the Republic to make information on same-sex marriage more accessible for citizens living in Macau.
On the other hand, the ties between Portugal and Macau remain close even after the change of sovereignty. In cases which same-sex married couples in Portugal come and work in Macau, the lack of recognition of the relationship in Macau deprives them of their equal rights enjoyed in Portugal.
As a result, we would like to request the assistance of the Government of the Republic in encouraging the Macau SAR Government to adopt a legislation in recognition of same-sex marriage, in line with the prevailing trend in the West in favour of the advancement of LGBT equality and human rights.

Somos defensores da igualdade de direitos da comunidade Lésbica, Gay, Bissexual e Transgéneros (LGBT) de Macau.
Atendendo ao número de residentes em Macau que possuem cidadania portuguesa e à legalização do casamento entre pessoas do mesmo sexo em Portugal, acreditamos que estes residentes têm o direito inalienável de gozar dos mesmos direitos dos seus compatriotas.
Apesar da promulgação do novo Código Civil, o processo de registo no exterior de casamentos entre pessoas do mesmo sexo não tem sido activamente promovido pelo Governo da República.
Seja em Consulados portugueses ou em Portugal, os residentes de Macau, titulares de cidadania portuguesa, têm dificuldades em obter informações relevantes nesta matéria. Assim, gostaríamos de pedir ao Governo da República que envidasse esforços para que tal informação seja acessível aos cidadãos que vivem em Macau.
De outro lado, os laços entre Portugal e Macau tornaram-se ainda mais fortes após a transferência de soberania. Apesar disso, a actual falta de reconhecimento do casamento entre pessoas do mesmo sexo em Macau priva os portugueses na situação de casados com pessoas do mesmo sexo e que se deslocam para trabalhar e residir em Macau, dos direitos que lhes assistiam em Portugal.
Como tal, pedimos o apoio do Governo da República no sentido de promover junto do Governo da Região Administrativa Especial de Macau a adopção de legislação que reconheça o casamento entre pessoas do mesmo sexo, conformando-a com a tendência do Ocidente a favor da evolução dos direitos de LGBT e dos direitos humanos.
